Things Don’t Appear As What You See

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The light bulb at the staircase of my house was blown off for quite some time. I didn’t change it because I needed to get a ladder first to reach for the light.

Finally, I got myself a ladder the other day. I removed the burnt bulb from the socket. But the bulb was broken into two. Thinking of showing the watt was all I needed to buy a new bulb, I kept only the glass portion of the bulb and I threw away the metal connector at the bottom.

When I reached the shop to get a new bulb, the shop owner asked me how big the connector was. I was stunned as I didn’t take note of the size of the metal connector. I told the shop owner that let me try with the small one first.

When I went home, I tried to install the bulb but the socket was too big for the new bulb.

Feeling frustrated, I went back to the shop and asked for an exchange. The shop owner re-assured me that the size must be correct this time as there were only two sizes for light bulb of my kind.

Here again, when I reached home, I climbed up the ladder and tried to fix the light. To my surprise again, the bulb is too big for my socket. I said to myself this couldn’t be as the shop owner said one of the two sizes should fit my socket. I had tried all the two.

The other reason I could think of was the shop owner was trying to be irresponsible with me. I was ready to get my refund if this was true. Feeling cheated.

For the third time, I went back to the shop again and told the owner that I couldn’t fix my light with all the two sizes he had.

He said it was impossible. And asked me to try again. I couldn’t believe that I took so long to fix a light bulb. “What a joke.” I told myself.

For the last time, I went home and try to fix the light again. True enough, the socket was too small for the new light bulb.

But this time I got an idea. I climbed higher to have a look into the socket and I found out the reason why I didn’t manage to fix the light bulb.

After having looked at the inner side of the socket, I suddenly noticed that the real socket for the light bulb was residing in a bigger outer plastic socket. Which means the ‘real’ size for the socket is smaller than it appears. All the while, I was thinking the size of the socket was a big as the outer plastic socket.

Then only I realized that the light bulb that I should be using was the one with smaller size.

What an experience for changing a simple light bulb! But I learned something from this experience.

I have learned that things don’t appear as what and how we see them. A lot of things are perceived wrongly because of our ignorance and lack of wisdom.

It’s exactly what happened to me for the bulb changing experience. Thinking of the light bulb should be the larger size but in fact when I took the trouble to look deeper, it turned out to be otherwise.

Life is the same as well. Don’t look at things on the surface, look deeper. And you have more potential in you than what you think you have.

A Guide to an Unsecured Loan

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

An unsecured loan implies the lender relies on your promise to pay back the money you have contracted to borrow. The lender is taking a huge risk agreeing to loan money without a security that they would receive with a secured loan. Therefore, expect interest rates for unsecured loans to be higher than they would be if you were to have some form of collateral. With an unsecured loan, you normally have certain payments over an agreed period and penalties may apply if you decide to repay the loan early. Unsecured loans are often more expensive and less flexible than secured loans, but appropriate if you want a short-term loan of between one to five years.

Examine your budget carefully

Before deciding to take out an unsecured loan, make sure you can afford it. Examine your budget closely to verify that you will be able to repay the money according to the repayment plan offered. You can do this by checking your income against your outgoing expenses to determine what you have left at the end of every month. This is a gauge to see what you can afford to borrow. If you find that your spending exceeds or is close to your income, think very carefully about whether you can afford to borrow additional money. Also, bear in mind that paying back loans and credit cards may become a problematic if interest rates were to increase, you lose your job, or another unforeseen event takes place in your life that renders you unable to make your repayments as scheduled.

The advantages and disadvantages of an unsecured loan

There are advantages to applying for an unsecured loan. Lenders offer a fixed repayment schedule so you can pay your unsecured loan off within a set time. This is a good safety net if you do not trust yourself to pay back the money you have borrowed with an overdraft or credit card. Lenders offer competitive interest rates, do your research, and select carefully.

If you think you may want to pay your unsecured loan off early be sure to check the terms to see if you will incur any penalties. Several lenders charge you the majority of the interest that you would have paid if you had kept the loan for the full term. An unsecured loan is not flexible; you have to pay it back according to your agreement, even when money is tight. Try to match the repayment period to the length of time you will own the item you are purchasing. You do not want to be repaying a loan when you no longer own the item.

The cheapest rates may be limited to those customers who show a good credit rating, or those who are borrowing larger amounts. Some lenders offer elective payment protection insurance and try to convince you to take it. This type of insurance can be a good thing if you become ill or lose your job; on the other hand, it might not be and is often expensive. You may have coverage of another form of insurance so do not be pressured into taking it out unless you need it.

Paintball 101 – What You Need to Know!

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Paintball is a game played up of many players or teams. It can be played indoors or out, with as few as two people or as many as 500. Paintball is played at designated fields, back yards or even in the woods. A game can last as little as 5 minutes or hours with all depending on one to take something, find something, or to just be the last person not marked.

Depending on the location of where you play, the strategy of your game will vary from being quiet and sneaky and choosing your shots carefully, to being loud, fast, and shooting constantly. Paintball is a competitive sport played like any other competitive sport, to win. It is challenging game of tag, hide-and-seek or even capture-the-flag. Being you shoot at other people and they shoot at you, paintball requires safety equipment to be worn such as goggles, special clothing and etc.

An essential part of paintball is the paintball itself. As in tennis, the ball is the main element of a paintball game. But unlike a tennis game, paintball has dozens, often hundreds, of “balls” in play at any one time. As the name implies, these balls are actually tiny containers of paint.

Paintballs have a really simple construction. They’re actually a lot like bath-oil beads. They are made of colored liquid enclosed in a gelatin shell and are available in a variety of colors. Paintball are also non-toxic, biodegradable and are water soluble.

Basically, a paintball is like a small water balloon, weighing only a few grams. The shell holds up if you handle it or drop it from a short distance. When you shoot a paintball from a gun, however, it bursts on impact and leaves large splatter of paint.

The job of the paintball gun, or as many call a marker, is to shoot the paintball at a high rate of speed. In a standard gun, the propulsion system is compressed gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen or ordinary air and is stored in small or large tanks that can be attached to the gun. The paintball gun is also attached to a hopper, which holds the paintballs.
Maintaining safety in paintball is important to make the game safe. The power of paintball guns is strictly regulated. Guns in play are adjusted so that the maximum speed of the paintball is 300 feet per second. A paintball traveling at this speed is not likely to cause serious injury if it hits you, though it will sting and can leave a bruise. Also, since wind resistance starts slowing the paintball down as soon as it leaves the gun, it has a reduced impact when fired from a greater distance. Speeding paintballs can cause serious injury to the eyes and paintball players always wear protection.

In addition to playing paintball for recreational use, paintball is also part of military and police training. In terms of feel and handling, a paintball gun has little in common with an actual firearm, but paintball is still good training for combat situations. Mainly, it lets soldiers and police practice strategy and the fine art of not getting shot.

There are many paintball leagues around with American Paintball League being one of the largest in the paintball industry. Another paintball league is the National Professional Paintball League. There are the two main paintball leagues. Though they both pertain to paintball, each has their own set of rules for playing the sport.

Jeffrey Jones writes about paintball and paintball guns. See http://www.paintballemporium.com for more information.

The Future Of Gaming Laptops

Friday, June 27th, 2008

There has been a great infactuation for laptop computers recently. In fact demand is so enormous that taiwanese manufactures are expecting component shortages already. Whatever occurs in the market place this demand for laptops only seems to be going up. The technology is evolving in all directions simultaneously as well.

One of the growing trends is gaming notebooks. Prices are also dropping because the expected life has become so small for laptops. I feel notebooks are a adequate choice for gaming. Maybe not exactly for the extreme but they’re great for the rest of us. With the newly discovered power also came along more thinner bodies. With that stated gaming notebooks should never be thought of in the same league as their PC rivals. There will be a gap and the issue here is that its not a big deal for the masses. Everybody always craves to squeeze massive amounts of power from tiny packages so I would assume thats where gaming notebooks are destined.

Custom built notebooks have been here for a long time now and even though well known companies selling pre-built notebooks through stores it seems like there will always be laptop builders out there ready to put together something specific to your requirements. Ram and hard drives are normally high performance branded components in custom notebooks which power consumers like. The beneficial thing is that you do not end up forking out for unneeded extra’s you do not require. Many of the laptop computers found in highstreet shops are made to capture the most market share and not the small specialist markets. You get by this by getting a notebooks built to . Companies who build custom notebooks usually provide a greater personalised and local service as well. Numerous specialist markets acknowledge they are catered for better as a result of this.

I can hardly wait to see what laptops are released next. This year it seems as though budget portables are the popular item. Plenty of duplicate devices have already come out at an ashtonishing speed. Consumers want slim, incredibley light devices but they also want them to have enormous screens. This is a thing that can be accomplished even now if we forget about performance. Gaming notebooks will get thinner, that’s for sure. Every 12 months we encounter new gadgets so who’s guessing what we will see next.

I actually like the gaming laptops from rizeon.

Purchasing a Property in Spain

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

You are looking at the possibility of buying a property in Spain, whether to actually become your permanent base or as a holiday location? Where do you start? Below I provide you with points that you may consider when looking for your ideal property.

1. My first suggestion would be to go on to the internet and look at and even contact some of the various agents that are now offering properties for sale in Spain. You will find that many of these companies are owned and run by people who are now residents in Spain and will be able to provide you with information on the many problems and pitfalls that may arise when buying a property in Spain, and will also know the area that you may be looking to buy the property in.

2. Your next decision is where to you want the property to be located, do you want to live in a Town (urbanization) or do you want the Country (Campo) you may even decide you want to be near the mountains, lakes or coast. However, one thing you must consider is that you want things to be close at hand, such as shops and medical facilities, then you may be better off looking at buying a property in Town or on the Coast. It may be an idea to visit the area you are looking at to decide if this will be the right location for you.

3. Next you will need to decide what sort of property it is you want to purchase, is it an apartment, townhouse of a finca (country house with land). You may even want to take on the challenge of buying a property that needs renovation.

4. You have now decided on the location and sort of property you want to buy. Now is the time to start contacting the various agents (both on the internet and in the location directly where you are looking to purchase). These companies will not only be able to provide you with details on properties that they feel would be of interest to you , but they should also be able to provide you with details of solicitors and banks (should you need to raise a mortgage to purchase the property). They will also provide you with information on the schools, medical facilities, and other amenities within the area of your choice.

5. If you are looking to obtain a mortgage from a bank (either in the UK or Spain) then find out what sort of percentage of monies they will lend to you for the purchase of such a property. You will find that most of the banks in Spain will only provide you with a 75% mortgage against the purchase of the property.

6. You have now decided on the property that you want to buy, and you should now ask the agent is the owner of the property that you want to buy have the legal rights to sell it. If they do, then they should be able to provide you with the papers confirming this (an escretera). However, if these can not be provided then do not proceed with the purchase, but any respectable real estate agent would already have been provided with sight of these documents.

7. Next confirm with the agent selling the property that all the correct permissions for the property to be built have been provided by the Local Town Hall. Because of the rise in the number of properties that have been built in Spain over the recent years with out obtaining the correct permissions the Government has been forced to take measures to prevent this occurring in the future. However, it also means that those people/developers who have built such properties can find themselves not only incurring fines by the Government, but may also find there properties being demolished.

However, it should be pointed out that as long as you associate yourself with a reputable agent then you should have no problems in finding the property of your dreams.

Well I hope that the information that I have provided for you above will help you in making the decision to purchase a property in Spain a pleasant one.

Allison Thompson, living in Spain with 15 years experience in the Property field.

IT Marketing: Who Should Be the Lead Generator?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Lead Generation is the most crucial step in your IT marketing. In this article, you will learn that lead generation is the future of your company and the most important strategic activity you should be working on.

Be very careful delegating this task to anyone except possibly a spouse or business partner. Your clients aren’t buying products from you. They’re buying your service. They’re buying your personality. They’re buying your reputation. They’re buying word of mouth. They’re buying referrals. They’re buying you.

IT Marketing: Your Personal Responsibility

Your personal service isn’t something that can be commoditized and that you should think lightly about delegating. You need to increase your IT marketing by making the contacts in the community and getting the word out that your services are available. There’s no easy way to shortcut it. If you’re going to delegate anything, delegate some of the technical parts of handling those accounts to your staff.

The key thing to remember is being virtual IT means that you’re the single point of contact. People have to get to know you. You’re the owner. You’re the personality. You don’t want to be selling a commodity. You want to be selling you–you incorporated, your company incorporated as consulting services, network support services, virtual IT services, however you want to position it. But in order to do that, people have to get to know you personally and you’re going to have the most continuity when it’s you.

Direct Marketing Defined – Metcalf’s Law

Friday, June 20th, 2008

There is no denying that those who do well in life have networked in some form or another.

Networking does not only apply to what most people consider MLM or multi-level marketing, but also to anyone who establishes contacts for the purpose of expanding and strengthening their business connections. So when one takes an in depth look at all types of businesses, including the financial sector such as banks, everyone networks in some way, even the job hunter who sends hundreds of applications to his or her favorite placement agency.

This then brings us to the topic in question. It is widely recognized that direct marketing is a closely related to network marketing. Or isn’t it the other way around. Let’s be clear on one thing, the term “network marketing” has been greatly abused. It is shunned upon as strictly meaning multi-level marketing, when it is not. Not that there’s anything wrong with multi-level marketing which is in fact, direct marketing.

But isn’t selling from a website direct marketing? Yes it is! Direct marketing (person to person), in whatever form you choose to apply it, whether it be an information product on the net, or as an independent business owner for various manufacturers and distributors that choose this route, is in my opinion the only viable source in today’s economy where anyone can become rich in a relatively short time frame as compared to conventional methods.

There is no argument…that if you want to escape life’s daily ruts which the lack of money imposes on people, there’s no other way! I firmly believe that!

Some universities, at least in my neck of the woods, have given it a new name. They call it “collective entrepreneurship”, based on people joining together in solidarity towards a common goal, which is obviously financial.

Direct marketing, because of the principle and the magic of geometric progression, is an engine of infinite success. Did you all understand this? Let me put it another way.

How many of you know who Robert Metcalf is? Robert Metcalf is one of the people credited for creating the Ethernet. The Ethernet dates back to when people first started using cable to hook computers up to each other in the late 60’s. In 1972 Robert Metcalf and David Boggs at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center first standardized Ethernet. He more recently founded the technology company, 3ComCorp. But more importantly he is also credited for defining Metcalf’s Law which is:

A Network Economic Value = Number of Users

In simple terms, if there exist just one telephone, that single telephone has no economic value. The moment there are two telephones, according to Metcalf’s law, the economic value of the phone network is now squared. The economic value of the network would go from 0 to 2 (squared) or 4. Add a third phone and the economic value of the network is now 9. In other words, the economic value of a network goes up exponentially, not arithmetically.

Direct Marketing, takes the theory of Metcalf’s Law and turns it into an unparallel business model. Grasp the meaning and the power behind this, and you will understand the power behind Direct Marketing, also known as Viral Marketing.

Your Intra National Real Estate Space – Simplified by The Property Index Online Company

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Overseas property specialists Property Index sell a range of properties such as apartments and villas.

Though the Property Index is actually a fledgling organization, they were founded in March 2007, they were very quick to achieve expert status. Actually, they are a very unostentatious organization devoted to offering informed instructions to every client who is expecting to sell, buy, rent, etc. estate across the globe. What they guarantee to do is be of assistance to you to discover just what you need quick and, further, painlessly. Property can be found across the globe at the moment, undoubtedly the high-class area being land available for sale in Spain. It should be simply to determine the great property available for sale in Spain, one rationale for choosing property here being a combination of the houses and apartments available and the chance of being able to live amongst such a dynamical populace.

It’s one of the most fashionable property markets at the moment, and in view of the gorgeous landscape and the great weather surrounding you all the time, how could you be wrong…. Property in Spain is very rich in history and culture, this area of the world has been and is still home to a good number of indigenous civilizations. About twenty years ago there’d be a mere trickle of English people keen on property in Spain. Just ask anyone who has moved to Spain and they will be certain to confirm this. Quite a few people would tend to see it as a temporary rage and others tend to see it as a that’s nearly a fixation! People who relocate to this region range from young couples in search of a life perspective to older people meaning to chill out and enjoy themselves.

Note that there may be predicaments when attempting to buy property overseas — as is to be expected, there will be a hundred disparate, occasionally conflicting, actions whether devising a plan, touring or signing the documents. If you only miss a single minute step this is liable to trigger wide-ranging predicaments and, more important, loss in financial terms. As can be counted on with this well-liked location, property may be extraordinarily costly in this location which is naturally a result of the high demand. In spite of this homebuyers are somewhat spoiled in a destination so wonderful in terms of good landscape and shiny scenery. It’s certainly got the whole lot you might really imagine, etc.

France – Le Mans

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Set on the main European London-Madrid line, Le Mans is just 50 minutes from Paris by TGV. Its historic heritage has made this mediaeval town the most popular film location for French cinema. But far from being a “museum town”, Le Mans is strikingly lively and creative.

Like Nantes, Toulouse and Montpellier, Le Mans is on the way to becoming the next fashionable weekend destination of coming years. The fact seems crazy because this town has been so neglected for so long, too often remembered for its rillettes (potted meat) and its 24 Hour car race and the fact that it witnessed the birth of the first automobile in history, in 1873. And yet, on closer inspection, you can feel in this town a certain buzz, an atmosphere that is both friendly and committed. The charm of the surrounding countryside, the proximity of the capital, all served by an inspired and enterprising town policy, today combine to make Le Mans a “pioneer” town as regards quality of life.

Less famous than neighboring Tours or Angers, Le Mans immediately impresses visitors, not expecting to find such architectural gems or such harmony between stone, water, vegetation and sky! Along the Sarthe River, above the old tanneries district, you can admire the beautiful Gallo-Roman wall built under Diocletian in the 3rd century. This red 1,300-m-long surrounding wall, marked out with eleven towers and adorned with black and white geometric patterns, is one of the best preserved military buildings from the Roman world, along with the surrounding walls of the two Imperial capitals, Rome and Constantinople.

At the summit of the mound dominating the river, the Celts erected the town’s historic nucleus over 5,000 years ago and left an impressive menhir symbolizing both fertility and the centre of the universe. This mysterious pink sandstone rock, with its pleated forms, still stands against the Romanesque and Gothic cathedral of St Julien today.

Around the cathedral Vieux Mans (the old town) is a magnificent real life film set, with its winding alleys, 14th century half-timbered faades, turrets and corner pillars and gilded wooden sculptures. There Renaissance period mansions such as the Htel de Sceaux, at 54, Grand’Rue, where Marie de Médicis stayed and which is still considered the town’s most beautiful residence. In front of the house of Queen Berengaria (Richard the Lion-Heart’s widow lived and died in Le Mans in the 13th century), you will find the locations where the finest scenes of Cyrano de Bergerac (with Gérard Depardieu) or The Man in the Iron Mask (with Leonardo di Caprio) were filmed. Vieux Mans welcomes several film crews every year and each time its inhabitants are happy to act as extras.

Even if cathedrals are not your cup of tea, you might make an exception for the cathedral of St Julien – one of the biggest and most luminous in France. Begun in the 11th century and completed in the 15th, it is one of the greats of Gothic architecture with its double flying buttresses, 13 radiating chapels, lily-shaped stone filigree and its choir, which rises to 34 metres (112 ft). Like the cathedral of Chartres, it boasts one of the finest sets of mediaeval stained glass windows, mainly red, all made during the Hundred Year War by the master glassmakers of Le Mans. This cathedral is where where Henry II of England was baptised in 1133 and where the funeral of Queen Berengaria took place (in 1230).

Every night from 1st July to 31st August, the cathedral square, the Gallo-Roman surrounding wall, the faades of the houses, the gardens and cobbled alleys will be submerged by monsters and celestial figures of mediaeval imagination. This free “son et lumire” show will enable you to discover the history and treasures of the town. Last summer over 100,000 visitors played the game. This year, the musical angels painted on one of the frescoes of St Julien’s cathedral will be projected onto the faade of the building; each angel plays a forgotten medieval instrument, such as the mandora, échiquier, rebec, bagpipes, buisine and oliphant, double flute and string drum… Using these instruments, a contemporary composer has created a piece of music to be broadcast at the same time as the video images: this is the “concert des anges” (concert of the angels).

Le Mans, unlike many towns in Europe where more or less the same shops are always to be found, is full of boutiques and craft shops that you will find nowhere else. In the old town, comic book fans will head for Bulle, a leading bookshop known throughout France. Musicians or collectors will discover L’atelier d’Orphée, a specialist in the repair of old and new wind instruments. Nearby, an attractive boutique, Histoire de la mandoline, is entirely devoted to this now rare instrument, which provided inspiration for some of Vivaldi’s finest concertos.

Le Mans is also the home of six MOFs (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France – Best Workmen in France), among them the great chocolate maker Jacques Bellanger, the jeweller Houillon, renowned for the purity of his stones and the wrought-iron craftsman Jean-Franois Jousse, famous for his spiral staircases. And don’t hesitate to visit Atelier Avice, which perpetuates the Le Mans tradition of creating and restoring stained-glass windows. Grav’Or is a superb boutique specialising in glass engraving for cruise liners. The Crapeau Guindé prides itself on restoring old chairs and traditional saddles. Nelly Bichet is a milliner and fashion designer of great talent. Sébastien Drouet is the favourite clockmaker of all the locals. Gilles Mémin is a passionate antique dealer.

One of Le Mans’ greatest charms is to be able to find yourself immediately in the countryside, barely 10 minutes from the town centre. From this point of view, L’Arche de la Nature is an exemplary creation, which every weekend attracts thousands of locals who come to relax with their families. This 450-hectare (1,112 acre) natural area is mainly covered with hedged farmland and a forest (Scots and maritime pines, chestnut trees, birch trees and oaks) in which many wild animals live wild (roe deer, wild boar, pheasant and the very rare red partridge). The Ferme de la Prairie is a fascinating place where dying breeds of domestic animal are bred for example Percheron horses, Bayeux pigs, Touraine goats and the Coucou de Rennes (a rustic chicken native to Brittany).

4 km (2.5 miles) from Le Mans town centre, the Abbaye de l’pau is a lovely place set on the edge of the Huisne river in a 13 ha (32 acre) park where deer roam freely. Founded in 1229 by Queen Berengaria, daughter of the king of Navarre, dowager countess of Maine and widow of Richard the Lion-Heart (who died on a crusade), this is one of France’s last Cistercian abbeys. This imposing building has been superbly restored over 30 years. Here you will discover the recumbent figure of the queen (in the chapter house), but also the sacristy whose walls are adorned with beautiful 14th century paintings, the abbey church and the dormitory restored to its original layout. Every spring (from 1st April to 1st May) for the last 27 years, the Abbaye de l’pau has hosted the Europa Jazz Festival, attracting the greatest jazzmen of the moment (Richard Galliano, Jacky Terrasson, Aldo Romano, Stefano Di Battista, Daniel Humair for the 2006 edition). In summer, you can attend classical music concerts in the evening.
