Weight Loss is all to do with Calories

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

What is a calorie? The definition of a calorie is “the amount of energy, or heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius”. A calorie is a unit of energy that is associated with food and drink and is a measure of the energy, or heat, that food produces as your body uses it as fuel.
The first step in counting calories for your personal weight loss is to calculate how many calories you burn in a day (your total daily energy expenditure), this is the total number of calories that your body expends in 24 hours, including all activities. This is known as your maintenance level and will be the reference point (number of calories) from which to start your dieting.
The average calorie maintenance level for women in the United States is approx 2000 per day and the average for men is approx 2500 per day. These are only basic averages and are usually much higher for athletes or active individuals.
A quick and easy method to find out how many calories you require per day for weight loss and maintenance is to calculate a calorie value with a multiplier as set out below.

Fat loss = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 12 calories (12 x lb).

Maintenance = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 15 calories (15 x lb).

This is a very easy method to estimate your daily caloric requirements, but it has its drawbacks as it doesn’t take into account your particular activity levels or body fat levels. Despite this it will give you a good estimated figure that you can work with.
The maintenance figure that you get is the amount of calories that you need to consume to stay at your current weight. To lose weight your calorie intake must be lower than the calories you burn.
In order to lose one pound of fat per week, you must reduce your weekly calorie intake by 3,500 calories, which works out at five hundred calories per day. This can be done by reducing your calories by 500 or combining a diet with physical activity. The bottom line is to balance your caloric intake with the amount of calories that you are burning, that’s the secret to successful dieting and weight maintenance.
Becoming more conscious of counting calories in your everyday eating regime is imperative if you are trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that men and women underestimate their daily calorie consumption by 500 to almost 1000 calories. You can get a truer picture by keeping a, seven day eating plan of what you typically eat and drink during the day.

At the end of each days eating, add up the total amount of calories consumed and write them down on to the eating plan. At the end of the seven days, add the total calories for the whole week and then divide by seven, you now have your daily calorie intake.

Using a calorie calculator can make counting calories easier – you can total how many calories you will need for your daily activities to give you more control over how many calories you should include in your daily diet. Another technique for low calorie eating is to watch your fat intake as this has the most calories.
Moderation is always important when you are counting calories, severely restricting calories, causes the body to lower its metabolic rate, which reduces its ability to burn fat. At the same time, hunger signals increase and you quickly start to crave high-energy foods loaded with fats and sugar, the same foods you are trying to do without.

This is because when you return to normal eating habits, the drop in metabolic rate caused by the restriction in calories means that your old eating habits actually represent excess in calories. Not only do you regain the fat stores just lost, but also you may even gain a bit extra.

Dieting by counting calories means that all foods are allowed, nothing is forbidden as long as the calories consumed don’t go over your daily calorie allowance. Counting calories can also be flexible enough to accommodate most busy lifestyles.

Health professionals agree that healthy eating which includes counting calories and a low fat diet are essential for long-term healthy weight loss. The way to lose body fat and maintain muscle is to have a food program for life. Quality food and more energy output are the basics you’ll need to go for.

Bulk foods that fill you up and don’t fill you out, foods that are low in fat and sugar which aren’t refined should be the ideal. Small frequent meals should be consumed during the day each containing a little protein to maintain muscle mass and energy levels.

As before get the calories from high quality food but if you can’t, utilize a blender to make mixtures from skim milk with whatever nutrient additives you want to use, just as long as you keep count of the calories for your daily total.

Now use these out of the blender mixtures and solid food for your daily feedings. Spread it out over many small meals a day instead of the traditional three meals a day.

PodCast Marketing: How Effectively Are You Deploying This Definitive Marketing Solution?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Each day starts and usually ends with the same BIG question. Our clients and prospects ask us, “How can I grow my business and capture my fair market share?” Our answer is quite simply, “Build yourself a base of prospects and work that pipeline relentlessly and efficiently.”

One BIG tip that I can offer you as read my short synopsis today, learn how to become a successful PodCaster and watch your bottom-line fly skyward!

Over the past decade, the Internet has created many new breakthrough marketing mediums. From successful ezine publishing and distribution straight through to more pronounced search engine optimization practices.

As a television and radio broadcaster/marketing consultant, I have had the sincere pleasure of understanding just how important both the radio and television marketing methods are to businesses and individuals in getting the word out to their prospective audience.

Our weekly online radio show, Net Talk Radio has been received very well amongst listeners and advertisers alike. I guess I always knew that in time, connectivity speeds and portable hand-held devices would ultimately allow for a more expansive target audience reach.

The day has finally arrived!

Although, we began using our online talk radio format years ago, we are now able to sweeten the pie by allowing our listeners to almost effortlessly download our show (information and entertainment) right into the iPod and iRiver devices. Now our audience can listen where ever and whenever “they” like. Plus, as an added-value benefit to us and our valuable advertisers, we can track every hit (listener) around the clock for about the cost of a cup of coffee! We make all this happen by deploying one of today’s best emerging audio/blogging technologies popularly referred to as, “PodCasting”.

PodCast Marketing: *Anyone Can Do This!

First, What is Podcasting?

Podcasting is a term that manifested as a fresh way to describe the technology used to push (share) audio content from web sites down to consumers (clients) of that content, who usually listen to it on an iPod (hence the term “pod”) or any other type of .mp3 player (iRiver) at their command, convenience and control.

PodCasting is somewhat similar to the concept of time-shifted video software and devices like TiVo, which let you watch what you want exactly when you want it by simply recording and storing video, except that PodCasting is primarily used for audio to date. (Universal video deployment is most likely just around the corner.) With that stated I should explain, however, that this easy to use emerging technology can be used to push (deploy) any kind of file such as photos (images), software updates, videos and/or text.

PodCasting uses an XML-based technology called RSS (Real Simple Syndication). Content publishers (PodCasters) describe new content in an XML RSS file which includes dates, titles, descriptions, and specifics links to the .mp3 files. This “automatically” generated file is referred to as an RSS feed. Dave Winer is considered by many to be the creator of RSS and a pioneer in the environment of applied XML. The component to making PodCasting work with RSS is “enclosures” (remember that term), an element supported by RSS 2.0.

As a consumer or end-user, you simply run an “aggregator” (remember this term, too) program like MTV’s Adam Curry’s iPodder software on your local computer, which lets you easily subscribe to RSS feeds. Programs like Adam’s will either by schedule or by random design, download the RSS files, and check to see if any fresh content is available. If new content exists, the audio files are automatically downloaded and put into a folder (of your choice) on your hard disk or directly routed to your mp3 player.

I used an asterisk as noted above to make this very honest and often painful-to-some disclaimer. When I stated that “Anyone Can Do This”, I should more accurately state, “Anyone that properly learns (from a real professional) and activates their own PodCast process can reap the significant harvest of BIGGER numbers by creating and nurturing their own emerging community. As an online business owner this is HUGE and required! This marketing solution can not only make you financially solvent, it can even make you a “STAR”!

Fitting The PodCast Magic Into Your Arsenal

Here now is a list of things to do to prepare yourself for your first PodCast presentation.

1. Research The PodCast Element

Learn precisely what PodCasting is all about and how it works. I recommend visiting http://www.google.com and typing, “PodCast Radio” into the search field.

2. Physically Search Out Only The True Professionals

Create a list of those PodCasters that undeniably know exactly what they are doing. Align your yourself with only the best. From this list, call them on the phone and pick their brain(s). If you cannot locate an actual telephonic point of contact, I strongly urge you to wipe them from your list. You want to do business with those that believe in “touching” their market with more intimacy and one-to-one personalization rather than just an email. Remember, you are looking for a friend. A mentor. Not necessarily someone to take your money and be off. A solid partnership (friendship) is your objective here.

3. Discover Your Passion

What passion do you share with others? What true value will your audience glean from you? Who is your target audience? Understand your “WHY”!

4. Develop Your Plan & Work Your Process

What do you need to learn? What do you need to do? What specific date will you be ready? Who will provide you with the support you will need to fulfill your plan. What equipment is required?

5. Make Your Podcast Happen!

As you roll out your “new-to-you” adventure, don’t expect total perfection on day one. Be kind to yourself and know that you will evolve. We all started from square one. You should have heard my first radio air check from my first radio gig in Bakersfield, California. I sounded just like a bumbling knucklehead. :-) Enough practice and desire can make you near perfect, but do be fair with you and give yourself time to grow.

Listen to other Pro-PodCasters. Listen to your local radio stations. Read books and articles like this one on a daily basis. (I do it everyday!)

6. Finally… No Excuses!

If you “really” want to crank up the heat on your marketing efforts, than PodCasting will give you the significant marketing advantage.

Know this…

Others will talk about it, but never make their move.

You, on the other hand, will except no feeble excuses and get working on your very first PodCast right away! (At the very least, be sure to move PodCasting up near the top of “TO-DO” list!

In closing today…

I have illustrated only a fraction of what you must know before you go piling into your PodCast endeavor full steam ahead. Be sure to identify and experiment with all angles of marketing when it comes to producing an on-going, money-generating PodCast production for all the world to hear and take notice!

Happy PodCast Marketing!

Pruning Your Site for greater results; 3 Sure Fire Design Ti

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Trim down, tidy up, and tailor your site for making money! This is exactly what Thomas Shaw wanted to do when he came to Worldprofit Design Services with a request to re-design his existing site. His original site was in need of re-organizing and re-designing to rejuvenate his prospects and increase his sales.

Like many customers, who’ve added to their site over time, Thomas Shaw had a large amount of content included on his original site that needed to be condensed, re-organized and even removed. His original site housed a large amount of information that was not presented in a fluent and intuitive format, easily understood by his prospects. If your site is not easy to understand, this can be detrimental to your profits. Thomas needed a new design that would still allow him to display all of his main products and services, but without being overwhelmed with too much information. This is exactly what we achieved with his new site design.

Have a look at his original design: http://www.sovereignquestrealm.com/backups_02/

Now check out the new and improved re-designed website: http://www.sovereignquestrealm.com

The main page is now very straightforward and is divided into specific areas designed to feature prominent selling products and important information. This allows Thomas to draw attention to his most profitable items, without overwhelming his visitors with everything else that he is offering.

*** DESIGN TIP #1

- Knowing what your main money-making product or service is, and prominently featuring it on your home page, is an excellent way to decrease customer confusion, thus increasing your sites selling power.

In addition to condensing a lot of the main content information contained on his site, we also moved the main navigation and reduced the number of sections that were available. As you will notice by looking at the redesigned home page, the navigation bar is now at the top of the page – Prominent but not overwhelming. And instead of having 13 buttons or sections to choose from, we replaced them with only 6 sections.

Reducing the number of sections that are presented to Thomas’s, visitors will actually increase his potential for sales. This eliminates the risk of confusion that his visitors may experience when they are presented with an abundance of choices and information.

Many web site owners make the fatal mistake of thinking that in order to increase their chances of selling at least one item, they need to present 50 items. THIS IS FALSE! The more choice people have, the less likely they are to purchase anything at all. The vast number of items to pick from will confuse your visitors and they will more often then not, leave your site without having purchased a thing. Don’t confuse or frustrate your visitors by offering too many products or services, and your profits will speak for themselves!

*** DESIGN TIP # 2

- In many cases, LESS IS MORE! Present your potential customers with one or two benefit-oriented choices, rather than an abundance of different selections. If your visitors’ choices are limited, the decision to actually purchase something becomes much easier and thus the potential for sales skyrockets!

Another very important element that was added to his site was the animated flash movie in the top right corner of his home page. This flash element was a key addition to the site, specifically meant for drawing attention to Thomas’ feature product. With the inclusion of animation, combined with real human photos, this animated adds the perfect amount of attention grabbing excitement that makes a clear indication to his visitors that this is the product they need, and this is how to get it!

We have successfully used this flash animation as an automatic tour guide for Thomas’ site visitors. Essentially prompting his potential customers where to go, what to look at and how to get it. If the visitor has any confusion about where to go, or what product they should inquire about, this flash element has eliminated any doubt. We have made a clear and concise indication to the visitor to click on this animation, which is exactly what Thomas wants, in order to increase his sales.

** *DESIGN TIP # 3

- Use eye-catching elements to create excitement and energy in your own site! Having a renewed excitement will rejuvenate your visitors and will create an optimal buying environment for your potential customers.

Now with all these elements combined, this site has not only been redesigned, but transformed into a totally streamlined, moneymaking machine!

Now here’s the test. Have a look at your own site.

- Is it old, outdated, unorganized?

- Do you need animation to pull in new customers?

- Are your profits suffering?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, YOU NEED A SITE RE-DESIGN! Bring back the sophistication and excitement in your site and your profits!

Cyberspace Sports Laying – the Essentials

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Connect the two of people’s primary interests and you have got is a mania named a sportsbook betting site. What could be more creative. Envision a party of sports enthusiasts applauding any favored local players, and more often than not bets are placed in tandem with the ruckus. Because they want to get their piece of the delights, on-lookers usually strive to envisage who will prevail the running match. You’ll be able to bet a a small quantity of dinero and regardless have a extravagant time. Looking further, here are some facts to help you get started sportsbook gambling.

If you want to bet, you will probably want to go to a sportsbook betting site, i.e. a setup which offers sportsbook betting site. In the United States, there’s no less than four states where you can do sportsbook gambling officially, but semi-legally you can do it wherever provided you can pin down a bookie and happen to be legally an adult. Covered track-and-field events you’ll be able to wager on are professional presented with college football + basketball, professional hockey and baseball, presented with dog and horse racing. You’ll be able to bet on the entire score of a contest, on what round a given contestant will be defeated, and even whether a given coin toss in a contest comes out heads or tails.

The betting outfit reckon with number crunching be of assistance to you choose which players you trust will prevail. You’ll find loads of different categories of antes- parlays, straight bets, over/under wagers, teasers, and plenty more, the straight being the dominating one in sportsbook gambling. If you don’t you’re going to end up feeling sorry all your life!

A Californian’s View of Philadelphia

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

You feel like you’re in America in Philadelphia. Everywhere history calls out to you to stop and look at the place where George Washington, Ben Franklin, and other founding fathers performed miracles. Plus, the city is gorgeous with its fountains and ornate City Hall as the centerpiece.

One city feature to appreciate, the street name system, makes finding your way around the city easy. Because early Americans couldn’t read, they planted chestnut trees on one street, pine trees on another, spruce trees on the next, and so on. Therefore, the streets are named after trees with the cross streets numbered. Today, the streets are lined with gorgeous, huge trees!

Unlike other big cities we’ve driven around, such as Los Angeles and Mexico City, Philadelphia’s traffic keeps moving. Philly’s drivers amazed us with kindness: they stop and wave you through for left turns or stop and let you in line.

However, parking is a big problem. It cost us $22 dollars a night to park at the hotel. Most homeowners have to park on the street along with the tourists. Early Americans did not plan for so many cars.

We got to see South Street! I never connected this South Street to the 60s hit song, “Go on down to South Street, where all the hippies meet.” Of course, because I was a real Southern California hippy, it never occurred to me that the song referred to a street in Philadelphia. South Street is the home of the famous Philly cheese steak sandwich. I think over the five days we were there, our son ate five cheese steak sandwiches.

The Philadelphia Zoo should be called the Philadelphia Zoo and Gardens. It’s a perfect zoo because you can walk through it in a couple of hours. You get to see interesting animals without taking two days to walk around. The gardens have glorious peonies, which I’ve never been able to grow in California. Many of the trees were new to me; I wish they would label all the vegetation.

When you visit, get the Philadelphia Pass, which comes with a Big Bus pass. Save money by purchasing your city pass online before you leave home. The Big Bus Company has been operating live-guided, open-top sightseeing tours in London, UK since June 1991. The bus takes you on a tour of the amazing city with stops to see the Philadelphia Zoo, The Academy of Natural Sciences, and a ferry ride across the Delaware River to see The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial. The battleship, our nation’s most decorated battleship, is berthed on the Camden Waterfront, across from Penn’s Landing and Center City Philadelphia. We never had time to go to Mummers Museum, so we have an excuse to return.

For Philly cheese steak and cheese fries, try Jim’s steaks on 4th and South, or Steve’s on 7th and South. You have to wait in line at Jim’s and walk up narrow, steep stairs with short treads to wait for a table to eat. Less-famous, but just as tasty, Steve’s has no lines and a great little diner. How do they get away with non-accessible rest rooms?

For a fabulous treat, go to the original City Tavern and dine like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson on exotic West Indies pepper pot soup, chestnut fritters, and pecan-crusted, honey-glazed roasted ducking. While you’re there, don’t forget to buy Chef Walter Staib’s City Tavern Cookbook.

Forget the “better than Hostess” cupcakes by Tasttee Cakes, even if the Big Bus driver raves about them.

Unlike Southern California and Texas, when you’re in Philly, you know you’re in the United States of America. If you’ve never been, go.

Bad News For Salmon Fishermen

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Here is a case of bad news and more bad news for salmon fishermen.

Federal fish managers, based on a recommendation of the National Marine Fisheries Service, are considering closing down ocean salmon fishing from Point Falcon in Oregon to Point Sur in California.

The closure- which is scheduled to have a final vote in April-would basically decimate coastal salmon fishing operations, and despite federal disaster aid, essentially would put a fair number of salmon fishermen out of business.

The “canary in the mine” here, is the Klamath River and it’s resident salmon which have found it hard to spawn in yet another screwed up river system.

I’m not a scientist-but there appears to be a direct corelation to the massive die-off of Klamath Salmon back in 2002. (For those who do not remember, back in the water tight year of 2002, precious Klamath Basin water was diverted to southern Oregon and northern California ranches and farms to protect their interests.) I also do not claim to be a water management expert-although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once- but it appears that inland water managers might want to shake hands with marine fishery managers, especially when inland rivers drain directly into oceans. The fact that a river born, sea raised salmon, sometimes has to travel hundreds of miles to spawn their young, tells me there is some cause and effect as to what takes place “upstream”.

So why would an alfalfa grower, rancher or any water user for that matter, think that their blatant disregard for those that are “downstream”, won’t have an effect at some point?

Hmmmm?

I’ll let you come up with the answer.

All I know, is that if nothing is done, we will have another ruined river.

The double dose of bad news here is, if the closure takes place, guess what?

Fishermen will head north.

Washington and Alaska will get some folks who will be suddenly interested in relocation.

And of course with more boats and fishermen and pressure on the salmon(despite quotas) the next place you will be hearing about closures and angry fishermen-will be Washington and Alaska.

The good news, if there is any, is that salmon fishing in any river in the affected area, such as the Rogue & Chetco should be phenomenal this year. Without any competition from commercial ocean fishermen and ocean sport fishermen, river salmon fishermen will have the fish all too themselves.

So stay tuned to April 2nd and the decisions that will be made.

The future of both Klamath River Salmon and California commercial fishermen, may hang in the balance.

Is Your Job Becoming Extinct? Here’s What To Do

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Job growth–or lack of it–and the levels of
unemployment continue to confuse obtuse
government analysts and the Wall Street crowd.

Why? They are ignoring the dramatic effect of
rapidly-increasing self-employment.

Recently, the weekly number of unemployed declined,
but the number of newly-created jobs was very
small. How could that happen when there were not
enough new jobs created that week?

Simple. More and more people are becoming
self-employed, no longer wanting, needing and
even seeking jobs.

One reason: many kinds of American jobs are an
endangered species. They’re simply not needed any
more by corporate America.

These jobs include office administrators,
production/factory work, farmers and ranchers, stock
clerks, sewing machine operators, mail clerks, mail
machine operators, computer operators, secretaries,
telemarketers, meter readers and part-time sales people.

The reasons: office technology, changes in business
practices, escalating plant and factory automation,
declining numbers of small farms due to acquisition,
RFID technology for inventory management, offshore
outsourcing, employees doing their own word
processing and data entry, heavy use of email,
optical scanning and voice recognition systems, and
growing e-commerce and automated reordering
systems.

Don’t hold your breath, waiting to return to the
good old days of being paid $15 to $20 per
hour–plus benefits–for low tech, old fashioned
office and factory work. These Happy Days will not
be here again.

You have to learn more to earn more–continuously,
and you must also become self-employed and attain
Internet proficiency to succeed in the 21st Century.

Brain experts say we only use 5 to 10% of our brain’s
memory, so we all have lots of room to store new
information.

What some powerful proof that globalism and the
decline of jobs are permanent? The IBM worldwide
Chief Procurement Officer does not work at IBM
Corporate Headquarters in Armonk, NY. His office is
now in China.

A recent study says that 72% of households are
thinking about starting a home based business. And
73% of Americans use the Internet regularly. Most
likely, there’s considerable–perhaps perfect–overlap
of these two groups.

Don’t be left out or left behind. You, too, should be
starting or expanding your home based business and
becoming a proficient and prolific Internet user to
build your businesses.

There’s an old saying, “he who hesitates is lost.”
Comedian Mel Brooks changed that to “he who
hesitates is poor.” Mel’s right!

Poverty is a deliberate choice caused by a mindset
focused on lack and coasting–at your family’s
expense–by passively living in the past, rather than
seeking today’s 21st Century opportunities.

Wait no longer. Don’t become an endangered species.
Eagles can die off as an endangered species or soar
majestically to search for more desirable places for
them to flourish.

This applies to you, too. What kind of eagle do
you want to be–one becoming extinct or one soaring
boldly to incredible success?

The choice is yours. The best choice is self-employment.

Remember, at best, “he who hesitates is poor.”

4 Things All Articles Should Have

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Articles on websites are of great important as they dictate how successful the website would be and how much traffic it gets. Thus becoming a key element in making a site work and its profitability.

A website owner must have the good sense to only include articles in his or her site that will work for them and earn them the many benefits articles can give to their site.

Articles have been known to be the driving force in driving traffic to a website.

Articles are a factor in giving a site higher ranking in search result pages. The higher a site ranks the bigger slice of the traffic flow pie it gets. With the surge of traffic, there are more leads and more potential for profit.

However, it is not just about flooding your site with articles; they must meet certain requirements as well. These requirements must be met to obtain the maximum benefits an article will provide for your site.

A well written article will interest and intrigue your customers and entice them to come back for more. Chances are they might even recommend your site to others.

Here are four things all articles must have to make it successful and helpful in making your site a profit earning and traffic overflowing site.

1. Good Article Content

An article must contain useful and helpful information. Articles must also be readable, and written well with correct spelling and good grammar. Your aricles must be good and well thought out in order to gain credibility for yourself.

A good and well written article will also boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.

2. Keywords and Keyword Phrases.

An article must always be centered on the keywords and keyword phrases. Visitors who arrive at a site actually looking for specific information usually arrive at the site through their searches via a search engine. They usually type in the keywords they are looking for (e.g. Golf, Marketing, Pets and Etcetera) into searches engines to get links to websites with the information they are looking for. It is important that you have an article that has the keywords that are related to your site. For example, if you maintain an auto parts site, you must be able to have articles about cars and their parts. There are many tools in the internet that provides service in helping a webmaster out in determining what keywords and keyword phrases are most sought out. You can use this tool to determine what keywords to use and write about.

3. Keyword Density

When you have your keywords and keyword phrases, you must use them fully. An article must have good keyword density for a search engine to “feel” its presence. Articles should at least have ten to fifteen percent of keyword density in their content for search engines to rank a site high in their search results. Getting a high rank is what articles do best for a site.

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used on an article. The number varies depending on the number of words used in an article. An effective article must have a keyword density that is not too high or too low. With a very high density, the essence of the article is lost and may turn off a reader as well as the search engines.

4. Linking

If you are going to submit articles to ezines or contribute your articles to newsletters and other sites, always include a link to your site. A little resource box with a brief description of your site placed right after your articles that you have submitted. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site.

Spiritual Clarity

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Who is the more spiritual person? The woman out on a Sunday morning excursion for coffee and a newspaper who swerves to avoid hitting a dog, or is it, the man who hits the dog in his haste to get to church on time? Who knows? My point is that going to church has absolutely nothing to do with being a good person.

Questions about religion have always troubled me. I decided to do research to find some answers. The book Spiritual Clarity contains my discoveries. Spiritual Clarity is easy to understand and does not attempt to influence its readers. Writing it has empowered me and led me to a conclusion that I feel good about.

My hope is that someday everyone will achieve spiritual clarity and we will eventually have a more peaceful world. It may take a while, but that is my wish. The path to peace is religious tolerance, realizing that your neighbors thoughts are just as important as yours. People need to get past the absolute thinkingstate of mind; that they belong to the one true religion and everyone else is wrong.

To achieve spiritual clarity the first step is to get a basic but more extensive view of what others believe. We also need to just not passively hope for a more peaceful world but to actually do something. Each little step in the right direction helps. These small steps may be donating blood, becoming an organ donor, becoming a bone marrow donor, volunteering at an animal shelter, volunteering at the local elementary school, buying a goat from Heifer International which gives the donated animal to a family somewhere in the world that needs it, giving a child a home that desperately needs a home, adopting a pet or sending money or goods to those who need it. Sending money to a church, so people as well off as yourself can have a place to go on Sundays, is not the same thing. Churches do a lot of beneficial things for charity, but sometimes that seems to be such a small part of church when it should be the main focus. Kindness does count. Just think about what would happen if all the money collected in collection plates around the country on Sundays was used to buy food for the hungry…starvation could be ended. Or if it was used to buy medication for AIDS patients in Africa.

In regard to helping others achieve spiritual clarity, I assume that I am not the only one dissatisfied with the knowledge that I had about spirituality and religion. Almost all of the people I talked to just believed as they were told to believe, so I think it would benefit many to do some reading and discover what is out there. Who wants to be categorized with the attorney in the Scopes trial who said, he does not think about what he does not think about? It is a perfect choice to think differently about some things and it is also a perfect choice to believe what you have been told, providing there is a tolerance for other thought processes.

Maybe we, as a whole, can be open to new things and come to the realization that things might not be as they seem. Tolerance, acceptance, and questioning are good thing. Life is wonderful and we need to experience it all, not just our own little corner of the world.
