Ski Holidays for the Eco Conscious Holiday Maker
Monday, December 22nd, 2008Many keen snowboarders will soon be dusting down their ski trousers and dashing forth seeking the largest snow.
And undoubtedly the affect from our carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday essentials as a turkey sandwich after the Christmas holidays.
Only last year, a late snowfall was in the tabloids and holidaymakers were panic struck about the flecks of snow melting almost as soon as they put down.
Skiing holiday company Chalet1802, based at the bottom of Monte Bianco in the French Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon neutral and afford skiers an environmentally friendly alternative while reserving their skiing holidays.
Chalet1802 owner Lumumba said: Last year was a bit of a surprise with the warmest wintertime in 55 yrs in France. It was balmy and the snow didnt last so much of the early season ski season in the mountains was uneven. We decided to go carbon negative to help preserve the skiing resort.
Lumumba said: We are not seeking to prescribe to punters but I think its all important to give the guests the option without augmenting the cost of the trip. When the client book with us they may more than off set their carbon output and we absorb the additional costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – clients require luxury but not at the expense of the environs, so we viewed ways of decreasing the results of a guest traveling over here for a ski holiday.”
